We will will be having an open discussion about Chat Widgets, sharing our favorites and demonstrating how they work. If you have a favorite that I didn’t mention, feel free to bring it along. If you have it embedded on any of your UCR pages, we would love to see it and hear about your experiences.

What is streaming media? Streaming media is media that is consumed (read, heard, viewed) while it is being delivered. Although it is generally used in the context of certain content types (”streaming audio”, “streaming video”, etc), streaming is more a property of the delivery systems employed to distribute that content.

Topics to be covered are:
-How to record/convert stuff for streaming.
-How to set up a streaming server or get stuff on the campus server.
-How a streaming server works

I would like to announce a new Web site that will be a listing of RSS feeds available on campus. The new campus Web site (still in production) will use RSS feeds to collect information from the campus for display on the home site.

Please visit the site at http://www.rss.ucr.edu/ and see what is currently available. If you have a feed you would like added, please email Derk Adams the specifics of the feed. If you would like to know more about RSS feeds and how to have one for your group, please contact Derk Adams as well.

For those who have no idea what RSS feeds are, it stands for Really Simple Syndication and is a fast, effective method of having your information available to anyone who wants it.
